The Standalone Service Creation Environment (SCE) product from Aricent is being used by OEM customers to create next generation enhanced applications, services as well as call related features.

These OEM customers chose to use the adaptable SCE programming environment from Aricent instead of using conventional methods on account of the value this product delivers to them in terms of their ability to deliver enhanced applications to their service operator customers quicker than their competitors and that too at reduced costs.

SCE Deployment Scenario Softswitch platform for Class 5 features

The Aricent SCE is a standalone product, which meets the requirements for end-to-end service creation and integration for both proprietary as well as standards based core networks and application platforms. SCE delivers true customer value on a sustained basis by enabling rapid development and maintenance of revenue generating services at reduced costs, faster time to market for new applications and quick turnaround for customer specific application customization needs.

The Aricent Service Creation Environment entails absolute savings in developmental efforts, maintenance and customization efforts as well as soft savings which are guided by the opportunity cost. The benefit of the Service Creation Environment increases with the increase in the number of features / applications. Using the Aricent SCE, the absolute savings in development effort is over 50% while the maintenance and customization effort comes down by over 50%.

The Aricent Service Creation Environment also reduces the opportunity value for time-to-market, with elapsed time savings of over 50% and improves the turn-around for customer specific needs

The Aricent SCE can be adapted to create any application for standardized interfaces and it is not tied up to any specific underlying platform or technology. The fully functional out of the box software solution after adaptation supports user defined dynamic plug and play of new components (third party application development support).

The SCE generated applications and services are currently running on OEM platforms and the following section provide details on SCE usage by some of our OEM customers for a service platform as well as a Softswitch Platform.

SCE generated services for Enhanced Call Server (ECS) platform in IP domain

The Enhanced Call Server (ECS) is a hardware and software platform for creation, development, distribution, management and execution of services. The Enhanced Call server (ECS) is an "Adjunct System" to a PSTN switch for either IN (Service Node/SCP/SRF) type of services or for protocol inter-working type of services. It can also act as an independent network element type of device for the Media Gateway Controller or Gatekeeper functionality.

The figure above shows ECS deployment in a Network: and logical placement of SCE for generating applications.

In this configuration the ECS Server acts as a Service Deployment Platform. The Server provides a Service Creation, Deployment, Service Control and Service Resources functionality using the SCE and SMS software solutions. It interacts with the PSTN switch using the INAP/ISUP and with PINT server using SIP Protocol. It also interacts with the SMS using a TCP/IP connection.

Service Creation Environment (SCE) and Service Management System (SMS) are independently hosted applications (they run on a platform other than ECS) which are part of the ECS solution.

The SCE is a Java based system which helps in creation of services whereas SMS is a Sun Solaris based application which helps in building, deployment, start, stop and monitoring of services. The SCE is used to create services which are then deployed on the Server.

The services developed using SCE are IN based services such as calling card, toll free, call screening, call forwarding and distribution, SIP/ PINT based services like Click to dial, click to fax and others.

Softswitch Platform for CLASS 5 Features

Development of CLASS 5 features for the softswitch using Aricent SCE. Here, CS1/CS2 ETSI/ITU-T/AIN 0.2 based SIBs are used for the development of services using INAP Adapter and the interface Service framework/MGC.

The Softswitch provides service framework and call control functionality, which will be in turn called by INAP Adapter and vice-versa. The figure above shows the Softswitch platform for Class 5 features.

The sample list of services created using SCE are calling name delivery, N11, Call ID blocking, 3-way calling, call waiting, call forwarding etc.
