Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP)

The Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) from Aricent helps OEMs build UE and RNC faster and at lower cost. It maps higher-level protocol characteristics onto the characteristics of the underlying radio-interface protocols, providing protocol transparency for higher-layer protocols. PDCP provides protocol control information compression.

Stack Architecture

Aricent’ PDCP provides message based software interface with following components of UTRAN:

  • PDCP User
PDCP User Interface is used for the PDCP SDU delivery.

  • Radio Resource Control (RRC)
RRC Interface is used for configuration, reconfiguration, relocation, and release of individual PDCP entities related to different radio bearers.

  • Radio Link Control (RLC)
RLC interface is used to transfer the PDCP SDUs to the peer entity.

  • System Management Entity (SME)
This interface is used by the SME for initialization of the PDCP layer. It is also used for statistics and traces management of the PDCP layer.
