Radio Link Control (RLC) and Medium Access Control (MAC) Protocols

Aricent offers Radio Link Control (RLC) and Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols compliant to latest 3GPP Release’99 specifications. These help OEMs build the Radio Network Controller (RNC) faster and at lower cost.

RLC and MAC protocols form data link sub-layers of the UMTS radio interface and reside on the RNC node and the User Equipment.

Architecture

Following message based interfaces are provided by Aricent RLC, MAC-d and MAC-c/sh stacks:

RRC
RRC interface is used for Control for Radio Resource Configuration and measurement configuration and reporting

Service User
Service user interface is used for data request and data indications for radio bearers

Framing Protocol (FP)
Framing Protocol Interface is used for data request and data indications transport channels apart from synchronization function between higher-layer radio access protocols (for example RLC, MAC) and the timing requirements of the radio transmission system.

System Management Entity (SME)
SME interface is used for functions like stack provisioning, tracing enabling, and statistics enabling.
