The Radio Resource Control (RRC) Stack offering from Aricent
enables OEMs to build Radio Network Controller (RNC) nodes
faster and with reduced costs.
The Radio Resource Control (RRC) layer handles the control
plane signalling of Layer 3 between the UE(s) and UTRAN.
Aricent RRC Stack is based on splitting the RRC protocol functionality,
specified in 3GPP RRC specification, in the UTRAN into a RRC
protocol stack entity and the RRC Application. Aricent RRC handles
lower layer configuration and protocol signalling with the
UE. RRC Application does the required resource management
and admission control related functionality.
Aricent RRC Stack Interfaces
The Aricent RRC has the following interfaces:
- RRC Application
- Radio Link Control (RLC) for control and configuration
of RLC entities
- Medium Access Control (MAC) for control and configuration
of MAC entities
- Framing Protocol (FP) for paging related functionality
- System Management Entity (SME) for control, initialization
and provisioning of the RRC layer at start-up, and at run
time
