New Delhi, June 23: Communication software company Hughes
Software Systems (HSS) is understood to have bagged a consultancy
order from Inmarsat to conduct a pilot feasibility study,
on the next generation satellite communication.
"We have bagged a small order for conducting a pilot
project of studying the feasiblity of satellite communication
from Inmarsat. The order is that of a consultancy," company
sources said.They did not disclose the size of the order.
Earlier this month, Hughes Software got a contract from a
Danish
firm Thrane and Thrane for developing satellite-based 3G networks.
HSS will implement a core network gateway besides supplying
radio network controller and UMTS stacks and services. HSS
will help the Danish company using satellite wireless for
broadband 3G application entailing movement of high speed
data, voice and video.
Thrane & Thrane provides equipment for land-based, maritime
and aeronautical communication on the Inmarsat system. The
size of the deal was close to $1.5, sources said. The company
is partnering with Motorola for deploying HSS billing mediation
and service activation system for the GSM network of BSNL
in the southeren zone.
