Hughes Soft to offer R&D services to Japan's NEC

Delhi based telecom software company Hughes Software Systems (HSS) plans to offer R&D services to Japan's $39-bn NEC to allow the latter to enhance its IP product line. The agreement with NEC involves not only development butalso implementation and maintenance of the solutions developed by HSS.

NEC is one of the top five customers of HSS. While HSS has been focusing onsoftware products for some time, it has been trying to broaden its offering to include software services. The relaionship with NEC is in the service segmentand a dedicated centre will also be set up for the company.

HSS will provide software solutions for the IP product line as a part of its service offering and agreement with the company. The agreement between the two companies involve enhancing NEC's routers, switches and IP applicationsused forbuilding IP optimized backbones a well as edge and access solutions.

HSS has also set up a Business Process Outsourcing unit in Gurgaon. The company plans to leverage its existing clients to garner some revenues for this unit.
