Hughes Software Systems extends its software services to Fixed - Mobile Convergence

Cannes, 14th February 2005 - In keeping with the dynamic needs of the telecom industry, Hughes Software Systems (HSS), which was recently acquired by Flextronics and is pending legal name change to Flextronics Software Systems, has extended its software service capabilities. These new services address the needs of network equipment providers developing total networking solutions for Fixed-Mobile convergence, based on IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) technologies.

HSS will provide consulting support to its OEM customers, which will include the entire gamut such as system design and architecting, product verification, interoperability testing, performance measurement and re-engineering support for migrating to open-standards-based platforms like ATCA.

During the 3GSM World Congress, HSS will demonstrate its capabilities along four key challenges facing early adopters of FMC - terminal devices, network and technology independent applications, seamless traffic flow across network boundaries and cost-effective, scaleable network nodes.

To gear up for next generation networks, HSS has invested in a 'Center of Excellence' for Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), which currently focuses on Interworking challenges across networks and core IMS nodes like Session Border Controllers, Multimedia Application Servers, SIP-based call control (CSCF) and IMS Gateways. FSS has plans to extend this to develop innovative solutions for multi-modal handsets and new FMC-based applications. The R&D Center consists of a dedicated team of engineers and has made considerable investment in development infrastructure, with the primary goal of developing expertise and re-usable intellectual property around FMC.
