Flextronics Software Systems unveils Industry's First Layer-2 Ethernet switching software with high availability capability
- The launch further strengthens FSS' leadership in Ethernet switching software segment
Gurgaon, India, 20 March 2006 - Flextronics Software Systems
(FSS), a global end-to-end communication solutions provider
launched the industry's first Layer-2 Ethernet switching software
suite with High-Availability redundancy capability. A significant
improvement over other Layer-2 Ethernet switching software,
the FSS product enables service providers to offer 'Five'9'
availability for their switches. The product includes multiple
next generation capabilities to ensure that it is more feature
rich and offers enhanced scalability in addition to the redundancy.
A few customers are already using the feature.

The High-Availability capability of the FSS Layer-2 Ethernet switching solutions will be offered as an additional option
that can be scaled into the existing core protocol capabilities of a network. This technology innovation will make it possible to
upgrade current equipment being used by vendors to provide high availability without having to undertake a full software overhaul.
The Layer-2 Ethernet Switching Software is a complete switching software suite comprising the following capabilities:
- VLAN
- Rapid Spanning Tree
- Multiple Spanning Tree
- Link Aggregation
- IGMP Snooping
- 802.1x authentication capabilities
FSS' datacomm products, earlier available under the FutureSoft brand, are mature,
scalable, robust and standards-compliant implementations. These are platform independent and
highly portable.
