Motorola Teams with Hughes Software Systems to Deliver Smart
Networks Enabled Packet Telephony Solutions
Strategic collaboration with HSS
adds to Motorola's comprehensive Smart Networks solutions and
delivers an unprecedented level of software stack integration.
Phoenix, AZ, USA -- March 21, 2001
Building on the foundation of their leading StarCoreÒ-based
networking DSPs and PowerQUICCÔ integrated communications
processors, Motorola (NYSE:MOT) today announced an agreement
to bundle Hughes Software Systems' (HSS) network and signaling
software stacks and frameworks with Motorola's Smart Networks
enabled Packet Telephony solutions. This integration will
help customers by reducing development time for next generation
packet networking equipment, freeing original equipment manufacturers
(OEMs) from having to develop complex in-house communications
software.
Hughes Software Systems' communication protocol stacks and
frameworks further the integration level of Motorola's Packet
Telephony solutions, delivering market-tested and proven gateway
software based on the latest standards, including Media Gateway
Control Protocols such as MGCP or MEGACO, General Packet Radio
Services (GPRS) and Universal Mobile Telecommunications Systems
(UMTS). Meeting the growing demand for communications technology
convergence, HSS' software stacks and frameworks for Softswitch,
Media Gateway Controller, Gatekeeper and Session Initiation
Protocol (SIP) Server solutions provide a complete set of
network and signaling software building blocks.
"This announcement is a further proof point of Motorola's
Smart Networks Platform-taking a system solution approach
by integrating our industry-leading communications processors
and networking DSPs with proven third-party software solutions
from strategic alliance members," stated Keith Cheney, general
manager of Motorola's Networking and Communication Systems
Division. "Networking equipment vendors recognize the value
of complete application-ready platforms, and our relationship
with Hughes Software Systems further allows us to deliver
comprehensive packet telephony solutions," Mr. Cheney continued.
"Hughes Software Systems is focused on delivering highly integrated
and proven solutions that enable OEMs to decrease time-to-revenue
and focus on value-added applications," said Arun Kumar, president
and managing director of Hughes Software Systems. "We are
thrilled to be collaborating with Motorola, and we see this
as a winning relationship for HSS, Motorola, and our mutual
customers. With our market-proven protocol stacks, this combination
of silicon, software and system-level integration will provide
the flexibility, features and performance that meet and exceed
the needs of networking equipment vendors."
Motorola's Smart Networks Alliance includes over 200 vendors
who develop integrated software, hardware and tools enhancing
the Smart Networks portfolio of networking DSPs and communications
processors. As the leading supplier of portable protocol stacks,
HSS' portfolio includes stacks built around the MEGACO, MGCP,
SIP, H.323, SCTP, SS7, GPRS and UMTS standards.
