Radisys partners with Hughes Software Systems To Provide Middleware On Voice Gateway Platform

August 17, 1999

RadiSys, a leading global manufacturer of embedded computing solutions for telecommunications and other industries, today announced that it has entered into a mutually beneficial agreement with Hughes Software Systems (HSS), a premier global communication software provider, to integrate HSS' voice over internet protocol (VoIP) software solution and communication protocol stacks with RadiSys telecom gateways.

RadiSys and HSS intend to create a value added, "application ready" platform for VoIP and gateway solutions. HSS' highly portable, value-added gateway software based on latest MGCP/MEGACO standards is being integrated with RadiSys' development platforms, such as the VGP-200, a CompactPCI rack-mount kit. It provides developers a complete development package all the way up to the customers' specific API. Adherence to new telephony standards assures ease of integration. Development time, already minimized with RadiSys' TASK-6000 telecom application specific kernel, will be further reduced by this application ready platform.

"This is a win-win relationship not only for RadiSys and HSS, but also for our mutual customers, said Arun Kumar, president and managing director of HSS. "Now, with access to RadiSys' telecom gateway solutions, our customers will benefit by having our standards based VoIP software solution already ported onto industry leading hardware along with protocol stacks like SS7, H.323, and ISDN. The time to profit advantage is significant."

RadiSys provides telecom and datacom OEMs both the building blocks and the integrated systems that enable voice and data convergence. "RadiSys has long provided our customers solutions that combine our expertise in Intel architecture CPUs, Texas Instruments DSP co-processors, WAN co-processors, software, algorithms, and system enclosures," said Arif Kareem, RadiSys vice president and general manager of the RadiSys Telecommunications Division. "This collaboration with HSS allows us to take our solutions one step further by providing application resources complete with the protocol stacks. The complementary strengths of both companies will be of enormous benefit to the customers of HSS and RadiSys - both current and prospective."

Hughes Software Systems (www.hssworld.com), headquartered in India, offers the full spectrum of communications related software services, products and solutions. HSS recently released its MultiQuick* series of VoIP solutions for gateway and gatekeeper built around MGCP/MEGACO, SIGTRAN, and H.323 standards. HSS is a leading supplier of ProtoQuick* series of portable protocol stacks like SS7, V5.2, VB5, ISDN, H.323, ATM, FR, etc., built around its Advanced Architecture for Protocol Engineering (AAPE*). With customers spread over the Americas, Europe and Asia, HSS focuses on providing solutions to Telecom/ Datacom Equipment Manufacturers, System Integrators and Communication Services Providers.

RadiSys (Nasdaq: RSYS) (http://www.radisys.com) designs and manufactures embedded subsystems that are used in a wide variety of electronics systems, from telecommunications equipment to medical devices to robotics applications. Its subsystems include Intel-based embedded computers, signal processors, communications interfaces, and certain types of embedded software. RadiSys' highly differentiated position in the market is a result of its intense focus on Intel-based technology, having the broadest array of building blocks, and having a "perfect fit" product development strategy of using its intellectual property to design high-volume customer- and application-specific subsystems.
