V5.2

V5 Interface specifies the electrical, physical, procedural and protocol requirements for the interconnection between Local Exchange (LE) and Access Network (AN) for the support of various types of digital and analog access.

V5.1 interface is based on a static multiplexer type principle in which a single E1 link is used to carry the bearer channels and the signaling channels. The bearer channel allocation to the V5.1 subscriber is fixed. The V5.2 interface is based on a dynamic concentrator type principle consisting of 1 to 16 E1 links carrying bearer and signaling channels. The bearer channel allocation to the subscriber is dynamic on a per call basis.
