The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is generating renewed interest
among network operators because of its ability to provide
modular, flexible service delivery, and fast time to market
for new services. Designed to work across wireless, wireline,
and cable networks, IMS has emerged from being a relatively
peripheral standards activity at the 3rd Generation Partnership
Project (3GPP) to being the core proposition for the delivery
of new and converged IP services.
Many complex factors can influence customer demand for these
services, and the trends can be difficult to predict. This
dynamic environment of constantly changing usage models and
increased device capabilities require the service providers
to bring new services to the market rapidly and maintain the
agility to scale the ones that sell.
Challenges faced by Service Providers:
Business
- Stagnating subscriber base
- Global subscriber base growth rate declined 20% in
CY 2006-07 *
- Higher subscriber churn
- ARPU decline
- Global wireless ARPU dropped by 6.4% in CY 2006-07*.
Technical
- Compliance to multitude of standards and evolving specifications
- Evolving standards
- Open to interpretation hence differing vendor implementations
- Bridging currently deployed architectures to IMS architectures
- Migration of existing fixed/wireless non SIP networks
to SIP based IP network
- End-to-end performance guarantee
- Network interoperability of IP-based services
- Handling the high signaling and message loads in IMS sessions
Aricent's solutions for Telecom Service Provider
Service providers will have a core network that finally separates
session control from the bearer path and the services. This
creates an architecture more suited to bring new applications
to the market more quickly, and reduces a lot of traditional
duplication.
Here are the solutions offered by Aricent for the telecom
service providers:
- Network design and planning
- Network engineering consultancy
- Phased migration strategies to new architecture
- System integration
- End-to-end testing and integration
- IMS interoperability testing
- Anticipatory performance testing/profiling
- Security testing
- NMS
- Dedicated, scalable NMS development
- OAM monitoring and diagnostics
- Integrated billing solutions
