Opportunity
An organization in Europe won the contract to supply interconnect
switches in one of the major networks in Europe. Aricent
was awarded with an opportunity of implementing
SS7, Call control and Call routing as part of their switching
software along with ISDN to SS7 interworking, thereby exhibiting
its expertise in the Interworking domain.

Aricent's Solution
For the SS7 module, the work involved porting the Aricent SS7
stack onto a combination of MPC860 card and Rack Mounted PC
running QNX operating systems. The MTP2 part of the SS7 stack
went into the MPC80 card whereas MTP3 and ISUP were to be
ported onto the PC platform running QNX.
The Call Control for the switch involved the development of
call control according to the Q.699 specs, for SS7 to ISDN
interworking. Aricent used its generic call control software and
protocol to implement it in the shortest time available and
also made it future safe for the customer so that new protocols
can be adapted without any major changes.
Aricent developed a unique fast call routing algorithm which can
be programmed using MMI for this project. The Algorithm makes
use of Hashed M-Way trees and the most exact match first algorithm.
The call control also provided for CDR generation, Supplementary,
MMI support, CLI authentication and other features.
