Opportunity
With this project, Aricent
had the opportunity of testing its expertise in next
generation of satellite broadband services - that offers
complete broadband-by-satellite services for enterprises,
consumers, small businesses and telecommuters. Aricent was
selected to jointly develop this Multimedia VSAT Network
Management Solution (NMS).

Aricent Solution
This joint development project required
developing a Web-based Network Management System to
perform the Configuration, Status-Statistics Monitoring,
Accounting, VPN Administration, Software version and
download management for the Hub components and the thousands
of remote multimedia VSATs.
Success Story
Our Network Management Group (NMG)
took this development project, while accommodating an
aggressive schedule that would enable our client to
strengthen its market position as the world's leading
provider of broadband satellite network solutions for
businesses and consumers.
Aricent developed a pure IP-based, broad
band satellite transmission system specifically designed
to support high-bandwidth IP applications such as video,
Web browsing, Web casting, business television and interactive
distance learning as well as thin-route, interactive
data applications such as credit and debit verifications,
point-of-sale, ATM, inventory management and sales polling.
The architecture was based on scalability and reuse
of the Java based components using CORBA, Java, HP-OpenView
and SNMP technologies. The specialised tools used for
the assignment included Visibroker ORB for CORBA; Java
Development Kit; HP Openview; Clearcase for Code version
management; SNMP Advent Stack and Visibroker Gatekeeper.
The implementation environments available for Multimedia
VSAT NMS, from Aricent comprise of the following:
- SNMP based manager for Multimedia VSATs
- Standalone manager/integrated with HPOV
- CORBA based distributed architecture
- Java based to provide platform independence

Aricent team was commended for the outstanding
work and further was awarded a major responsibility
in the development of the next Release NMS for the system.
