Multi-vendor Integration is fast becoming a challenge
in the emerging 3G scenario. In addition to the complexity
of convergence with networks supporting voice, data and video,
integrating varied wireless technologies into a single handheld
mobile device provides a significant set of challenges to
OEMs. Since 3G cellular technologies are several times more
complex than 2G technologies, interoperating the handset to
existing fully-functional infrastructure and adhering to high
bandwidth demands, supporting latest multimedia applications
makes the interoperability testing more pertinent. In today's
"multi-vendor network" a single vendor can no longer
guarantee end-to-end functionality. Standardized open interfaces
give operators the opportunity to combine network elements
from different vendors in their network.
Interoperability Challenges
A typical 3G network scenario today consists of network elements
from GSM as well as UMTS vendors. With new handsets entering
the market almost daily, introducing them into an existing,
fully functioning environment has become a complex operation.
Operators have to ensure total compatibility between handsets
and varied network elements. This requires huge time and money
investments. Aricent is now proud to unveil its
Interoperability Testing (IOT) infrastructure to supplement
its testing services offering, as part of its full spectrum
software outsourcing services.
