The nexGen SS7 solution resides on high
performance Sun or Linux platforms using Aricent's distributed
SS7 stack. It is a collection of telecommunications
software building blocks as depicted in the following
figure:
The system architecture is vertically
divided into a front-end and a back-end. The front-end
as well as the back-end consist of several processors
called front-end processors (FEP) and back-end processors
(BEP).
The FEP/BEP refer to physical processors (rack mounted
or desktop servers) hosting the Aricent modules.
Processors include signaling processors such as SS7,
SIGTRAN, broadband or combos as well as application
processors such as TCAP, MAP, ISUP or combos. Both types
of processors are agnostic to each other.
