SUA : Current Release

The current shipping release of Flextronics Software Systems SUA is Rel 5.0 and is uniquely positioned to meet the Functional and Performance needs of Next Generation Networks.

Feature list includes

  • Compliance to SUA IETF Draft version16
  • Message routing based on Global Title Translation as per SCCP specifications is supported.
  • Support for the following ITU-T, ANSI, CHINESE and JAPANESE SCCP standards (new ones can be added easily)
  • Full Scale and Transparent Support of SCCP Protocol Services (Connectionless and Connection Oriented, all classes 0, 1, 2, 3)
  • Supports all GTT functionality as per SS7 standards (e.g. ITU-T, ANSI)
  • Pre-integrated with Flextronics Software Systems SCTP implementation (based on Internet RFC 2960). Supports SCTP Socket APIs as per IETF draft tsvwg-sctpsocket version 07
  • Support for MTSafe, Traces, Statistics and Redundancy.
  • Support for Ipv6 IP addresses
  • SUA supports both Single & Double exchange modes in the IPSP-IPSP communication scenario
  • Relay functionality support equivalent to that of SCCP
  • Supports maintaining status of SS7 point codes from various Signaling Gateways
  • Comprehensive statistics supported. Common statistics counters, as per IETF M3UA MIB supported (since no IETF SUA MIB available) & Q.752
  • Congestion Control as per International/National MTP3 variants

Interoperability

To test the interoperability of its software stack with other vendors, Flextronics Software Systems (formerly HSS) has actively participated in all SUA interoperability events.

The last SUA interoperability Test Event (Plugtest) was held at ETSI facilities at Sophia Antipolis, France from 1 September - 5 September 2003. About 20 companies participated in this event for testing their version of SUA stack against other companies. Flextronics Software Systems SUA stack in all SG/ASP and IPSP scenarios was successfully tested.

Redundancy

SUA Stack redundancy feature supports both HOT STANDBY and COLD STANDBY redundancy Models. These models of redundancy are called Transparent Update and Stable State Update Model in Flextronics Software Systems terminology of redundancy implementation. SUA redundancy features also support mechanism to bring a new or recovered Node to be synchronized with current Active Node.

Flexible Node

This unique feature allows a single SIGTRAN Node (single instance of software stack) to act as a ASP, SGP and IPSP Node at the same time and also connect to all types (ASP, SGP and IPSP nodes) of Nodes at the same time. This flexibility allows the Flextronics Software Systems SUA to be easily placed in very complex Network configurations.

Distributed Application Server

To cater to scalability requirements of next generation Products, Flextronics Software Systems SUA stack supports mechanisms to enable distributed software architecture. In this distributed architecture SUA Layer can run on multiple nodes. This along with Redundancy Feature allows products to have n + k redundancy scheme, where there are "n" active Nodes and "k" standby Nodes. Also all intricacies of internal architecture are hidden from external world as all of these Nodes share the same view of the network.

Ports Available

All Flextronics Software Systems (formerly HSS) stacks including SUA stack is based on HSS AAPE™ Architecture, according to which all platform (both operating system and hardware) specific interactions are wrapped to a single module. With this, effort to port core stack code to a different platform is significantly reduced. On an average it takes less than a couple of weeks to port and test stack code on a new platform. SUA stack code is available for following Operating Systems.

  • Linux ( Tested with Red HATversion 7.2 )
  • SunOs (Version 2.5 and over)
  • VxWorks (Version 5.4.2)

Performance

A lot of consideration is given to optimization of software stack for memory and processing power requirements, during the design phase. This is done keeping in mind field deployment of the stacks. The SUA stack has been optimized for peak performance with practically no effect on scaling the network.
